Volvo 360 B230 16v Turbo
Project: Volvo 360 B230FT 16V Turbo
Friends' Project | Goal: Fast, Functional
For this "Quick and Dirty" project for a friend, I collaborated on the turbo conversion of a Volvo 360, fitting a B230FK engine with a 16-valve cylinder head and a Holset HE221W turbo. The goal was a powerful yet no-nonsense setup, based on a fast car for slalom and street use.
My contribution to the project:
Custom exhaust manifold:
Handmade "log manifold" for fast spooling and sufficient top-end capacity, matching the Holset HE221W turbo.
Downpipe:
Compact, stainless steel downpipe built with space, ease of service, and minimal flow restriction in mind. I did this with "piecuts" because we didn't have any elbows. Normally, I do this neatly with stainless steel welded elbows.
Intake manifold modification:
The original 16V intake has been modified for use with a Bosch drive-by-wire throttle body. Fully prepared for modern engine modifications with a standalone ECU.
Intercooler & piping:
The intercooler has been modified to fit the radiator.
I made the intercooler piping with minimal silicone fittings.
Other specifications by owner:
MaxxECU Race installation and tuning, Holset HE221W turbo, 16V conversion and engine rebuild, etc.
Result:
A project that quickly resulted in a functional and well-driving result. The car combines old-school character with modern control and turbo technology.
